Fauquier County is surrounded by Clark and Loudoun Counties to the north, Prince William to the east, Stafford County to the southeast, Culpepper County to the southwest, and Rappahannock and Warren Counties to the west. We are located 75 miles west of Washington DC.

Fauquier county is 50 miles long and only 15 miles wide. Fauquier County was established on June 1st, 1759 from Prince William County. It is named for Francis Fauquier who was Lt. Gov. of Virginia at the time, who won the land in a poker game, according to legend. There were 10 American Civil War battles in Fauquier County.
